This month Transit Unplugged TV heads across the pond to London, England. In this episode, the focus is on moving to the next phase of public transport—and to stop looking at ridership in terms of pre and post-COVID.

From connecting the three segments of the Elizabeth Line together to adapting the transport networks in London and Ireland to new ridership patterns, across Europe public transport agencies are getting a handle on what riders need today—and delivering it.

On the show, we hear from a host of transit leaders:

  • Mike Bagshaw, Managing director of the Elizabeth Line for MTR.
  • Simon Reed, Head of Technology and Data Transport Services at Transport for London.
  • Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority of Ireland.
  • Vernon Everitt, Transport Commissioner for Greater Manchester.
  • Minna Soininen, Director of the Finnish Transport Association.

All the guests talked about trying to understand and serve their customers better from frequency to fares, this is a new era of public transport. As Simon Reed said in his interview with Paul:

“Data is the new oil of our organization. Whereas previously we’d be perhaps talking about running IT systems on vehicles. Maybe we’re talking about the data that we can derive. What can we learn? How do we shape our services accordingly? And I think that focus on data first, it’s going to be our legacy from that COVID period.”

More than ever it’s technology and data that will play a key role in delivering transit services to our communities. Hear how these leaders are doing it in their regions on this episode of Transit Unplugged TV.
