Kicking off 2025 with two amazing guests
We’re starting the year with two must-listen-to interviews!
We try to kick off the New Year with something special each January. Well, this year we’re not doing that. We’re not starting off with an amazing episode. This year we’re starting off with two amazing episodes!
First up is the second of five interviews from Paul’s trip to Australia with a true transit legend: Howard Collins, OBE. Howard has been around the world leading some of the biggest agencies, including managing The Tube in London and the trains in Sydney. In this chat with Paul recorded by the water in Hobart, Tasmania, Howard plays down his contributions to transit–which are many–but focuses on his passion for people, his drive to get more people on transit, and some advice for folks coming up the ranks. This is advice you really should write down and pin to your wall.
As part of her role at the FTA, she is helping tribal transit systems tap into federal money more easily and working to rebuild the American OEM bus sector.
Tune into her interview with Paul next week to hear all the details and her vision for transit in the U.S. going forward.
Paul’s journey Down Under starts in Melbourne
This week we released the first of two spectacular episodes from Australia starting with Melbourne–and the world’s largest tram network–and Tasmania.
Join Paul as he wanders the streets of Melbourne, rides the tram, enjoys a lot of coffee, and tries to find a Tasmanian Devil. Plus get the inside scoop on hydrogen powered buses (you won’t believe how often they need to be filled) and watch him drive an electric bus around the yard.
Tune in next month for part 2 featuring Brisbane–hosts of the Summer Olympics in 2032 after LA.

????This Week in Transit News…
We start the year with congestion charges in New York City, celebrating 200 years of rail, and LA Metro upgrades its buses to better protect its drivers.
Make sure you tune in every Monday for your fresh dose of transit news from Julie Gates.
