Brisbane’s ferries are more than just transportation
Brisbane’s CityCat ferries are a tourist destination on their own!
More about the CityCat ferries in a moment, but first let’s talk about this week’s episode of the podcast.
This week host Paul Comfort is joined by special co-host Kelly Chapman with a special episode highlighting just a few of the amazing women leading the public transport in Australia. More importantly, our feature interview with Michelle Batsas highlights the important work to bring more women into transport careers and encourage more women in STEM.

Our guests, Lauren Streifer, CEO, Public Transport Association of Australia and New Zealand; Jamie-Lee Owen, Chair, Public Transport Association of Australia and New Zealand, Emerging Mobility Leaders; Katie Cooper CEO, Metro Tasmania; and Michelle Batsas, Executive Director Government and Stakeholder Relations, Yarra Trams share their journeys and highlight the critical role transit plays in people’s lives. Make sure you listen to hear Michelle’s own deep, personal connection to the Yarra Trams.
But our adventure in Australia doesn’t end there! This week we have part 2 of Transit Unplugged TV’s Australian tour. This month we feature the city of Brisbane. This river city relies on ferries to get people around and the CityCat ferries are so popular that they rank as the third most recommended activity on TripAdvisor for visitors to the city!
Also in this episode we take a riverboat cruise, check out the Cross River Rail project, get a look at the new Brisbane Metro buses, and Paul finally gets to see a Tasmanian Devil at the Australia Zoo.
Watch it all on YouTube! And don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share the video with your friends!
On the podcast next week we stay in Brisbane with our final episode of our Australian Transit Series. Paul Comfort talked with with Ryan Murphy, Chair of the City Council’s Transportation Committee in Brisbane (who you see in the video above). Paul recorded the interview while on a CityCat, you’ll hear Ryan talk about the ferry system and how integral it is to the city. Like many cities around the world, including places like Vancouver and Halifax in Canada, people ride the CityCat as a fun way to get a tour of the city from the river. Don’t miss this episode and the companion video to really experience the amazing city of Brisbane.
