Paul’s Alaskan adventure continues!
Paul continues the fun and adventure in Fairbanks!
Earlier this year Paul ventured to Alaska to record two episodes of Transit Unplugged TV. Part one from Anchorage aired in October and fittingly we released part 2 from Fairbanks this week.
Why fittingly?
Because Paul visits none other than the big man himself, Santa Claus, at his summer home in North Pole, AK!
Of course that’s not all from our tour of Fairbanks. Paul truly revels in everything Alaska from the people to the food to the culture to the environment. He visited gold rush saloons, a salmon bake, local artisans, and even a three-hour river boat tour to take in more of this amazing place.
Fairbanks is supported by a robust transit system and celebrating a new facility that will not only house all their operations, but all their vehicles inside too!
All this plus:
- Visiting Pioneer Park
- The ecology of Creamer’s Field
- The Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitor Center
- The University of Alaska, Fairbanks Museum
When Paul was there it was daylight almost all day, but right now the Sun comes up after 10:30 AM and sets only four hours later! Fairbanks doesn’t go into total darkness like places farther north, but four hours of daylight is pretty dark.
Make sure you don’t miss this great episode, and Paul’s visit to Santa.

On the podcast this week, we have an in-depth interview with Matt Booterbaugh, CEO of RATP Dev USA talking about trends, challenges, and careers in transit. Matt especially gets into how we need to be planning for our next generation of transit leaders and how bringing people in from outside transit could be our key to innovation.
Listen to Matt and Paul’s entire discussion wherever you find and listen to the podcast.
