The Alamo and Beyond: The Surprising Sides of San Antonio

Some cities you visit, San Antonio you remember.

There’s the Alamo, plus 300-year-old missions, a River Walk that lives up to every bit of its reputation, and Fiesta, a ten-day citywide celebration honoring San Antonio’s rich culture and history. Oh, and the food. Tex-Mex, soul food, French pastries — this is one of only two UNESCO cities of gastronomy in America, and it shows.

Paul Comfort explores it all on VIA Metropolitan Transit, the largest bus-only system in the US, riding alongside CEO Jon Gary Herrera and his team. He also steps onto the Spurs’ court at the Frost Bank Center, visits Morgan’s Wonderland — the world’s only fully inclusive theme park — and wraps up with a private dinner cooked by students at the Culinary Institute of America. San Antonio is a lot of things. Boring isn’t one of them.
